“I have arrived. I am home. My destination is in each step.”
-Thich Nhat Hanh
Just yesterday, a beautiful summer evening, I enjoyed watching and photographing my children playing on a Chicago beach and swimming in Lake Michigan. And as the sun cast a beautiful glow on the lake I was approached by a soft-spoken pregnant lady. She asked me kindly if I could take one picture, “just one picture” as she said, of her and her belly. She stated that the only photographs she has of her belly are her iPhone selfies. I saw a sliver of desperation in her eyes to have this image in her archives, just as we all would want proof of the hard work we put in during those 9 months. So I immediately said yes and took these. After she came back to shore I complimented her on her bravery to approach me with her request. To me it’s just a sign of her gracefully and impressively becoming the Mama she is; a Mother will do anything for her child.
